Petland Demo in St. Paul

Join ARC at a peaceful demonstration at the Petland store in St. Paul at 2123 Old Hudson Road, 1:30-2:30pm, on Sunday, March 3. ** Note: Park in the St.Paul Youth Services Lot to the north of the Strip Mall. The Petland chain continues to encourage the selling of animals for profit even as millions of animals are killed in shelters across the country. The stores in the largest pet store chain in the country support breeding mills by purchasing their puppies, kittens, small mammals, birds, and fish from large-scale brokers and/or directly from large-scale breeding operations throughout the U.S. Not only does this contribute to the killing of millions of homeless animals every year; it also perpetuates a culture where animals are bought and sold as products. We are part of a national effort to persuade Petland to stop selling live animals (all of the Petland stores in Canada have stopped selling live animals). We provide signs, but you are welcome to bring your own as well. See you there!

Vegan Knitting Circle

Ginko Coffeehouse, 721 N. Snelling Ave., St. Paul, 3:00-4:30pm. Here is your chance to get together with other vegan knitters and relax and chat while enjoying a tasty vegan treat and coffee. Rest assured you will not have to listen to anyone wax poetic about spinning their own yarn from wool or the miracles of alpaca and cashmere blends, and instead trade tips about soy silk yarn and yarn made from bamboo and corn. Ask others for ideas on the best way to veganize knitting patterns and hear about the most-vegan friendly yarn shops in the Twin Cities.Note: This is not a knitting lesson. Join Megan Duke, mentor through ARC Vegan University, as she guides you on a tour of the Wedge Community Co-op, 2105 Lyndale Ave S in Minneapolis. You will learn simple tips for reading labels, discover products you overlooked in the past, and have your questions on veganism answered. Feel Good for Animals

Sadie Schrader of Relaxed Body will be providing seated massage on Saturday, March 9 from 12-5pm at Ethique Nouveau, 317 W 48th St. in Minneapolis. Appointments can range from 10 to 60 minutes and are $1 per minute. Email dallas@animalrightscoalition.com to reserve an appointment. Sadie will donate 50% of the proceeds to help ARC animal advocacy programs.

Defiant Daughters Reading and Book Signing: Twenty-three years after Carol J. Adams published The Sexual Politics of Meat, a new collection of essays, Defiant Daughters: 21 Women on Art, Activism, Animals, and the Sexual Politics of Meat, showcases the influence Adams’s seminal book has had on subsequent generations of women. Come hear two of those women read selections from their essays: Dallas Rising and Kim Socha. This will be an evening of powerful ideas and conversation. Animal Rights Coalition Day at Ecopolitan

July 19th, 2012

Huge thanks to Ecopolitan restaurant and everyone who came out to support their fundraiser for the Animal Rights Coalition’s many animal advocacy programs on Thursday, August 9. So many people enjoyed Ecopolitan’s delicious organic raw cuisine that the kitchen actually ran out of food! Please continue to visit Ecopolitan, Minnesota’s only 100% organic vegan raw restaurant, bar, and natural home and body goods shop.
