Join us for our first volunteer meeting of September to watch "Dog by Dog," a film about the daily realities of puppy mills and laws/corporate customs that keep them in business. The puppy mill business in the U.S. is booming, profitable, and aided by a complex system of laws and corporate policies. Dog By Dog aims to explain what keeps puppy mills in business and to explore the choices one can make in order to eliminate puppy mills. All are welcome! After the documentary, we will have a short discussion on the film and upcoming ARC events. Location is ARC office (co-located with Ethique Nouveau), 317 W 48th St. in Minneapolis.

Join us to protest animal exploitation at the Renaissance Festival. This year the Ren Fest is offering elephant, camel, pony, and llama rides, and a petting zoo where you can handle exotic animals. Join our protest to help raise awareness about these unethical attractions and encourage people attending to skip the animal exploitation and instead enjoy the activities that don't hurt animals. Healing Our World: A Deeper Look at Food with Dr. Will Tuttle, author of the international best-seller, The World Peace Diet, published in sixteen languages, Tuttle incisively connects the dots between a broad array of ethical, ecological, health, cultural, and spiritual issues and our civilization’s ten thousand year-old practice of herding and exploiting animals for food and other products. Tuttle will speak at Unity Church, 4000 Golden Valley Road in Golden Valley. Socializing and refreshments will be offered from 6:30-7:00 pm. The presentation will begin at 7:00 and end with a Q and A session until 8:15 pm. Following the lecture, Tuttle will be available to sign The World Peace Diet, as well as his five other books. Book signing and socializing will go 9:00 pm. A donation is suggested, but not required, to attend this event. For more information, visit Tuttle’s site, worldpeacediet.com.

Please join us in prepping fur coats donated to our Cuddle Coats program to be sent to our wildlife rehab partners all over the U.S. This means removing all buttons, zippers etc, so feel free to bring a pair of sharp scissors or seam ripper of your own if you'd like, although we have several for people to use. Some people like to bring a lint roller for getting fur off their clothes at the end, but please wear clothes that you don't mind getting a little dirty. All are welcome. This is a great opportunity for teens and mature kids to help out, too, and is a great, low-key, low-commitment way to volunteer for a little bit and meet some of the other people in the group, while doing something concrete to save lives.
