Melissa will give you tips on grocery shopping, discuss smoothies versus juicing, and give you a seven-day meal guide. We will also discuss looking at vegan nutrition from a holistic perspective and come up with a comprehensive list of salads and sandwiches for on-the-go people. Please join us for a free screening of Lolita: Slave to Entertainment. This 2003 documentary tells the story of Lolita (original name Tokitae), an orca whale who was captured in 1970 off the Washington coast. She has been a slave for over 44 years at Miami Seaquarium, in the smallest orca tank in the world. ARC volunteer Melanie is attending the Miracle March for Lolita on January 17 in Miami and will bring further information about how we can help this whale who belongs to an endangered species of orca. If this iconic species is not helped, they are facing certain extinction. Screening is at Minnehaha Free Space, 3747 Minnehaha Ave. in Minneapolis. We are receiving lots of fur donations for our Cuddle Coats program and want to ship them to our wildlife rehab partners as soon as possible. Meet at the ARC office (co-located with Ethique Nouveau) at 317 W 48th St. in Minneapolis at 6:00 pm to help prep fur coats and accessories for shipment. Wear clothes that can get a little fuzzy. This is a great, low key way to volunteer and meet some of the other people in the group while helping to save animal lives. at 6:00 pm

The ARC No Pain in My Name campaign and Progress For Science are joining together for an on-campus protest at the University of Minnesota on 3/12 from 1:00-2:00pm against the work of Dr. Marilyn Carroll who, for the past thirty years, has been forcibly addicting primates, rats, and mice to meth, heroin, nicotine, alcohol, etc. Funded by the National Institutes of Health---which is funded by your tax dollars---Carroll has received about $10,000,000 over the last decade. Meet at the Moos Tower entrance off of Washington Ave. Mall, not Delaware St. If you are at the intersection of Washington Ave. Mall and Harvard St. S.E., we will be just west of that location. Signs will be provided, but feel free to make your own. NOTE: This is a coalition event of two distinct groups: the ARC No Pain in My Name campaign and Progress for Science. The protest will be fully in accordance with the law and the organizers of this event do not support trespassing or other types of disruptive activities. ARC Director Dallas Rising will speak at Parkway United Church of Christ on the theme: Veganism: A Path for Healing the Earth, Our Bodies, and Animals. Dallas will also be announcing some exciting new free programs from the ARC North Vegans group available to residents of the North side. The talk will begin at 7:00 p.m. after a vegan soup and bread dinner which starts at 6:15 p.m. Go to the church parking lot at the corner of Lowry & Vincent Avenues, park there, and go in via the parking lot entrance (the church is located at 3120 Washburn Avenue N in Minneapolis). The dinner and talk are both open to the public, but please RSVP to 612-522-2982 by 3/9 to attend the dinner. at 7:00 pm

Get Your Vegan Hotdish On!
Join us for a delicious time at the second annual Twin Cities Vegan Hotdish Cook-Off on Saturday, March 22 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m at the Fuller Park Recreation Center, 48th Street & Grand Ave. S in Minneapolis. Think tater tots, green beans, pasta, and other yummy things all mixed up in a single baking dish. Original recipes from area cooks will be vying for two prize categories: Audience Favorite and Judge’s Pick with additional prizes for the runners up.
Our judges are noted cookbook author Robin Asbell, State Fair judge Susanne Mattison, and none other than the the monochromatically stylish Scott Seekins – The Minnesota Famous! Come and support ARC while tasting a variety of delicious hot dishes for only $1 per sample. Free beverages will be provided and there will be lots of great door prizes. Your best Church Lady attire is welcome, but not required.
We have a few contestant spots left and a $20 deposit will reserve your spot (you’ll get your deposit back in full at the contest).
