Free Screening of Peaceable Kingdom: The Journey Home

Peaceable_Kingdom_(documentary)Join Ashley and Makai for a free screening (with popcorn!) of Peaceable Kingdom. Location is Walker Library, 2880 Hennepin Ave. in Minneapolis at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 17. Get more info on the film and RSVP at Vegan Meetup.

This film explores the struggle of conscience experienced by several people from traditional farming backgrounds who come to question the basic assumptions of their way of life. A riveting story of transformation and healing, the documentary portrays the farmers’ sometimes amazing connections with the animals under their care, while also providing insight into the complex web of social, psychological, and economic forces that have led to their inner conflict.

Interwoven with the farmers’ stories is the dramatic animal rescue work of a newly-trained humane police officer whose sense of justice puts her at odds with the law she is charged to uphold. With strikingly honest interviews and rare footage demonstrating the emotional lives and intense family bonds of animals most often viewed as living commodities, this groundbreaking documentary shatters stereotypical notions of farmers, farm life, and perhaps most surprisingly, farm animals themselves.

Special Fur Free Friday Cuddle Coats Prep Session

Cuddle Coats prepFur Free Friday is one of the largest global days of action in the history of animal rights with anti-fur events taking place simultaneously around the world against the fur industry.

After protesting Minneapolis’ Ribnick “Luxury Outerwear” and the sale of animal fur and skin, join us at the ARC office, 317 W 48th St. in Minneapolis, from 2:00-5:00 p.m. for a special Fur Free Friday Cuddle Coats prep session. Cuddle Coats gives donated furs back to the animals, providing comfort, warmth, and rehabilitation at our rescue and rehab partner facilities nationwide.

We will prep donated furs by removing buttons, zippers, etc. so we can ship them to wildlife rehabilitation centers as soon as possible. Feel free to bring a pair of sharp scissors or seam ripper, although we have several for people to use. Some people like to bring a lint roller for getting fur off their clothes at the end, but please wear clothes that you don’t mind getting a little dirty!

We’ll have vegan pizza and beverages at the end of the session. Help us convert donated furs that were once brutally taken from animals into a source of care and compassion for the animals. RSVP on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/1706073719720706/ or Vegan Meetup: http://www.meetup.com/vegan-415.

Thank You to Give to the Max Donors!

Thank youWhat a whirlwind yesterday was – so exciting to see the support for ARC’s work to help animals on Give to the Max day, especially from all the brand new donors who committed to helping animals. Thanks to all of you, we raised over $10,000 to continue and expand our work advocating for animals.

It’s moments like this when so many members of the community come together that prove our power to make change. Thank you to each and every one of you! You are amazing.

Chelsea Youngquist, ARC Program Director and the ARC Board of Directors: Shelly Bell, Brenda Burchfield, Angie Chesney, Charlotte Cozzetto, Megan Kosse, and Steve Leinen

Donations to ARC will be Triple Matched on Give to the Max Day!

GTMD16If you’re a Minnesotan, you’ve probably heard of Give to the Max, our state’s awesome annual day of giving. For 24 hours, midnight to midnight on Thursday, November 17, non-profits ask for your support to make the world a better place.

This year, a generous supporter of ARC’s work to help animals has pledged to TRIPLE MATCH all donations to ARC. This is an amazing opportunity to help animals and know your gift will make a huge difference. If you’ve never donated to ARC before, now is the time!

Not only will your donation be tripled, you could also be a big prize winner. Every hour during Give to the Max one donor’s charity will win an extra $1,000; and one charity will win an extra $10,000.

This is your chance to do the maximum amount of good for animals. Help us combat the violence animals endure daily. Make a donation to the Animal Rights Coalition today and your donation will be tripled. We promise we’ll make every penny count.

Thank you so much,
Chelsea Youngquist, ARC Program Director

P.S. Inspire others to give by asking your friends, family, and co-workers to support a cause that’s important to you. Give a donation in honor of or in memory of a companion who holds a special place in your heart. Today is a day to take pride in knowing that you’re actively helping to shape a world you can feel good about.

We look forward to sharing this special meal with new and old friends.

ARC Volunteer Day at SoulSpace Farm Sanctuary

SoulSpace volunteer day (2)ARC volunteers had a wonderful day at SoulSpace Farm Sanctuary in New Richmond, Wisconsin building chicken coops, hauling hay, tilling the garden, and getting to know the farm’s rescued residents. We think it’s so important for people to be able to get to know farmed animals as individuals. It was a very productive day and hearts were full from chicken, pig, sheep, goat, dog, and cat snuggles. View the photo album from the day.
