Petland Demonstration

Millions of animals are being killed in shelters across the country and yet the Petland retail chain continues to encourage the selling of yet more animals for profit. The stores in the chain support puppy mills by purchasing their puppies and kittens from large-scale brokers and/or directly from puppy and kitten mill operations throughout the U.S. Responsible breeders do not mass produce puppies and kittens or sell to pet stores. Peaceful store protests have proven successful in other states in educating consumers about inhumane breeding. If you can bring your own sign, please do. Some signs will be available there. March Book Group: Dominion

Why else would they be here?\" If you\'d like to explore what \"dominion over animals\" means, this month\'s selection, Dominion by Matthew Scully, is the read for you. Vegan Baking Class
at 7:00 pm
Between food allergies and lifestyle choices, vegan baking is becoming more and more popular. Join Kris Holechek, cookbook author and blogger to learn about egg replacements and other secrets of successful vegan baking. Held at the Nordic Ware outlet store in St. Louis Park, 4925 Highway 7, from 7-9pm. Cost: $25 per person plus tax; samples and take-home recipes included. Guests will also receive a 15% discount on regular-priced, Nordic Ware brand products purchased in the store that evening. Classes are demonstration style and limited to 24 people. Vegan Runners Meetup

Lake Calhoun Boats, 2710 W Lake St., Minneapolis, 6pm. We will meet at Lake Calhoun and shoot for a three mile run, which is one lap around the lake. Don’t worry about pace—no vegan will be left behind! We will run only as fast as our slowest runner, or if there are enough of us we can split up into slow and fast groups. After our run we will head over to the Triple Rock Social Club, 629 Cedar Ave., Minneapolis for vegan eats and BLINGO! They have an expanded vegan menu, which includes vegan cream cheese wontons. Vegan Runners Meetup
at 6:30 pm
Minnehaha Falls, 4825 Minnehaha Ave - We will meet by the roundabout next to the Sea Salt Restaurant. Look for Melissa or Kris Anne who will be wearing vegan shirts. The weather has definitely taken a turn for the awesome, so time to hit the trails! Minnehaha Park has some great paved running/walking trails that lead into Fort Snelling State Park, and there are some great paved trails there as well. There is a small pay parking lot north of the Sea Salt Restaurant, but one can typically find free parking on a nearby side street. There is also a very convenient light rail stop a short distance away (50th St Minnehaha Sta and Platform). We will shoot for a three mile run. Don’t worry about pace—no vegan will be left behind! We will run only as fast as our slowest runner, or if there are enough of us we can split up into “slow” and “fast” groups. If you would like to run a longer distance, show up early and meet up with us later. After our run we will head out to get some tasty vegan food (location TBD by those attending that night). VegKins Meetup

VegKins will meet for a kids puppet show from 10:00-11:30am at In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theater, 1500 E Lake St. in Minneapolis. There is a suggested $2 donation for youth who live or go to school in the Central, Corcoran, Phillips, or Powderhorn neighborhoods, and their families. If you live elsewhere, a $4 donation is requested. Please note that this is a requested donation and not required. The play is The Gnip Gnopera - a glow-in-the-dark tale of an ordinary ping pong ball that takes an unexpected bounce into the extraordinary world of opera. Classic opera meets cartoon-like looniess in this black light puppetry spectacular with live viola score.

ExtraVEGANza at Whole Foods

The Animal Rights Coalition is joining Whole Foods Market in Minnetonka (1001 Plymouth Road, Minnetonka, MN 55305) to create a day dedicated to sampling and learning about vegan food and the importance of compassion towards animals. From 10:30am to 2:30pm, there will be vegan samples offered throughout the store, vegan grocery shopping tours at 11am and 1pm, and an information table where you can get all your vegan questions answered. Whole Foods will be giving away a gift basket of vegan groceries, and the Animal Rights Coalition will have a drawing for a gift certificate to the only 100% vegan boutique in Minnesota, Ethique Nouveau, for newbies who sign up for our email list. This event is an ExtraVEGANza for the whole family! Whether you are vegan or not, you\'re sure to learn or taste something new, so stop by, say hello, and get your vegan on.

Vegan University: Find the Vegan You at Vegan U!

The Animal Rights Coalition is excited to announce a new program designed to promote compassionate eating: Vegan University. Vegan University’s mission is to help you go (and stay) vegan.

Vegan University consists of three elements originated by ARC: free Vegan Shopping Tours of local co-ops and markets designed to teach people how to shop vegan, free Help, I’m Going Vegan workshops, and a Vegan Mentor program. We also host Vegan Community Circle discussion groups.

What makes Vegan University unique is that we not only support people interested in transitioning to veganism via mentoring and community, but we also help people with the “how” once they believe in the “why.” Read more about Vegan University.
