- Fur Free FridayFur Free Friday
Time: 2:30 pm
Friday, November 28 is Fur Free Friday. We will be protesting outside of Ribnicks Furs and Leather (224 N 1st Street Minneapolis) on Black Friday, the largest shopping day of the year. The demo will be from 2:30-4 p.m. If you agree that it is not acceptable to commit acts of violence in the name of vanity, this event is for you. After 21 years, we are still participating in Fur Free Friday because there are many people who do not realize the realities of the fur industry, so we take this opportunity to educate the public. We will have signs and literature available, but feel free to make a personalized sign. Any questions, contact Alex Beane at firstname.lastname@example.org or Greg Kiefer at email@example.com. at 2:30 pm
- Protest the Shrine CircusProtest the Shrine Circus
Time: 5:30 pm
Protest the Shrine Circus at the Target Center, 600 1st Avenue North in Minneapolis, on Friday, 11/28 from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. Signs will be provided, but feel free to make your own. The Shrine Circus comes to town every year, but this year they are only here for three instead of four days, and they are here later in the year - which makes us think that maybe they are responding to a lower attendance rate and also trying to discourage protesters by coming later in the year when it will be a bit colder. BUT WE ARE MINNESOTANS and a little cold will not scare us. Wild animal circuses have been banned in other countries for being cruel and inhumane. More and more people are recognizing that it is impossible to keep wild animals who would be roaming dozens of miles per day if they were free, in small traveling box cars or trucks for so many days out of the year, hour after hour. We hope you will join us as we continue to drive ticket sales down even more this year. at 5:30 pm

Winning Vegan Hotdish Cook-Off Recipes
Thanks to everyone who came out to the second annual Twin Cities Vegan Hotdish Cook-Off. Over 100 people thoroughly enjoyed themselves, the food was delicious, and we were thrilled to see all the new faces, many of whom commented that they saw the story about the cook-off in the StarTribune and came because they wanted to learn more about being vegan. Check out recipes from the competition.
Thanks to our judges: cookbook author Robin Asbell; Susanne Mattison, regular food judge at the State Fair; and Scott Seekins, famous in Minnesota for being famous.
Congratulations to Mary Johnson Strand, Judges Choice winner for her Chick’n in a Biscuit, and Troy Wuollet, Audience Favorite winner for his Pizza Hotdish.
